Attendee Policies

Make sure you review the following policies so you're up-to-date on the nitty-gritty details such as attendee age restrictions, badge usage, and personal conduct.

The National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show®  (Show) is open to trade only and not open to the public. Individuals must be directly involved in the foodservice or lodging industry to attend or exhibit. Solicitation of any kind by non-exhibitors is strictly prohibited.

Make sure you review the following policies so you're up-to-date on the nitty-gritty details such as attendee age restrictions, badge usage, personal conduct, and safety & security tips.

Age Restrictions

  • No one under 16 years of age will be permitted on the Show floor at any time regardless of affiliation or circumstances. This includes infants and toddlers.
  • Absolutely no strollers or infant carriers (worn or carried) are permitted at any time on the Show floor.
  • Children ages 16 to 18 years of age are permitted only if accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • The National Restaurant Association® reserves the right to request proof of age from any one at any time. This rule is strictly enforced and there are no exceptions to this policy. This rule applies to all exhibitors and attendees. Registration of anyone under 16 years of age is unauthorized and in violation of these policies.

Badge Usage

  • By registering for the Show you acknowledge and agree that you work in the restaurant, hospitality, and food service industry and that you have provided accurate and truthful information. Substitution of a registration may be made prior to badge usage at any time. Sharing of attendee badges is not permitted. Additional I.D. may be required for entrance.
  • Attendees wearing badges from previous Shows or falsified badges and/or sharing or swapping badges will be immediately ejected from the Show and banned from future Shows. The National Restaurant Association and its affiliates consider such conduct theft of service, trespassing, and fraud and will report violators to law enforcement authorities. If such conduct is discovered after the Show, violators will be invoiced according to on-site registration pricing and will be required to pay their invoice in full in order to avoid being reported to law enforcement authorities.
  • The National Restaurant Association reserves the right to validate the authenticity of this badge and to confiscate those determined to be counterfeit. No refunds will be given for any person removed.
  • Badges must be worn at all times while attending the Show. Scanning of your badge may be required in order to enter certain areas of the Show.
  • All Show badges are the property of the National Restaurant Association and must be returned to the National Restaurant Association upon request.
  • Many exhibitors have equipment that will allow them to scan your Show badge. By allowing an exhibitor to scan your badge, you are agreeing to give that specific exhibitor your contact information. Should you choose, you have the right to refuse any request by an exhibitor to scan your badge.

Conduct

As the largest foodservice trade association in the world, the National Restaurant Association is committed to conducting its events with the highest levels of professionalism and ethical conduct where attendees can exchange information, gain knowledge, and network with other industry professionals.

To facilitate this, the National Restaurant Association strives to provide a hospitable, safe and educational environment during all of its conferences, meetings, and events, including the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show (the “Show”). The National Restaurant Association expects all of its exhibitors, sponsors, speakers, staff, and other event attendees to assist in creating a positive experience for all event participants.

This Code of Conduct outlines the National Restaurant Association’s expectations for attendee and participant behavior, as well as the consequences for conduct considered unacceptable. By registering for the Show, you agree to comply with this Code of Conduct and comply with all state, local, and facility rules, regulations and laws.

All event attendees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. We request that all attendees be respectful of other attendees, and conduct themselves in a collaborative and polite manner.

Prohibited Behavior

Unacceptable behavior includes any rude, intimidating, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, demeaning, or harassing conduct. Though any of such conduct may lead to disciplinary action, harassing or discriminatory behavior in particular are strictly forbidden and will not be tolerated. Harassment includes all forms of offensive or unwanted physical or verbal attention or conduct related to race, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, national origin, or any other protected characteristic. Examples of harassment include, but are not limited to: derogatory jokes, slurs, insults or name-calling; the use of sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following; harassing photography or recordings; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; unwelcome sexual attention, touching, flirtation, or other threatening conduct. Discriminatory conduct includes treating an individual differently because of race, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, national origin, or any other protected characteristic.

Reporting and Enforcement of Unacceptable

Unacceptable behavior or conduct violating this Code should be promptly brought to the attention of event staff or security at (312) 853-2525. Violations of law should immediately be reported to McCormick Place security at (312) 791-6060.

If an attendee engages in harassing or discriminatory behavior, the National Restaurant Association may take appropriate steps to remedy the situation, including, but not limited to, removing the individual from the Show or event, or any future event, with no refund. The National Restaurant Association requires anyone asked to stop unacceptable conduct to comply with the request immediately.

The National Restaurant Association takes its Code of Conduct seriously and expects all event attendees to respect one another at all times. If you experience or witness any unacceptable behavior at an event, please immediately bring it to the attention of event security or a National Restaurant Association staff member at (312) 853-2525.

The National Restaurant Association reserves the right to interpret the foregoing Code of Conduct and to amend or modify it as it deems necessary.

Suitcasing

"Suitcasing" refers to the practice of attending a trade show but “working the aisles” with or without a suitcase or briefcase, soliciting business from other attendees and exhibitors. For the good of the Show and the exhibitors supporting the Show, the only legitimate place to conduct business during Show hours is within a contracted exhibit space on the Show floor. Exhibiting companies are encouraged to protect their investment and report any violations to Show Management.

Attendees observed soliciting business in the aisles or other public spaces, or in another company’s booth, will be ejected from the Show and may be banned from future events at the National Restaurant Association’s sole discretion.

Promotions, Recordings and Image Usage

The National Restaurant Association prohibits the use of personal cameras and mobile recording devices on the exhibit floor and at all sessions and speaker presentations.

  • Unauthorized photography, videography, or live streaming of any exhibit or product is prohibited and may result in the confiscation of device, film, memory cards, and cameras as well as expulsion from the Show. Registered press must check in at the on-site Press Center and declare intentions to photograph and/or film the Show.
  • The National Restaurant Association hires professional photographers/videographers to capture images and recordings of the Show in compliance with data protection & privacy laws. You will be asked for separate consent prior to any Show personnel or registered media conducting any on- and off-camera interviews with you. The National Restaurant Association may edit and use these images for administrative and promotional activities in the ordinary course of our business.

For International Registrants who are from or are residents of a country within the European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Philippines, or other countries that may have similarly restrictive privacy laws:

  • By registering, you acknowledge and agree that your image may be used by the National Restaurant Association in any of its own promotions and in registered publishing, broadcast, and cable media, without charge or obligation.
  • Additionally, if you have opted in during the registration process, you acknowledge and agree that you may receive promotional emails from exhibitors. If you have not opted in during the registration process, your email will not be included in exhibitor marketing promotions, but you will continue to receive emails from the National Restaurant Association, including promotional emails.

For All Other Registrants:

  • By registering for the Show, you acknowledge and agree that your image may be used by the National Restaurant Association in any of its own promotions and in registered publishing, broadcast, and cable media, without charge or obligation.
  • Additionally, unless you have opted out during the registration process, by registering for the Show you acknowledge and agree that you may receive promotional emails from exhibitors. If you opted out during the registration process, your email will not be included in exhibitor marketing promotions, but you will continue to receive emails from the National Restaurant Association, including promotional emails.

Product Removal from Show Floor

  • Product removal from the Show floor should be accompanied by a Merchandise Removal Pass distributed by exhibitors who desire to give away product to a Show attendee. The pass must be signed by a representative of the exhibiting company authorizing the attendee to remove product from their booth and the building.
  • Security personnel will not permit attendees to leave the building without the required pass.

Bags and Luggage

  • Attendees are not permitted to bring luggage on to the Show floor at any time.
  • In the interest of Show security, the National Restaurant Association reserves the right to randomly examine the contents of bags, luggage, containers, or boxes.

Hotels

  • Individuals are responsible for securing their own hotel accommodations. Cancellation of hotel reservations and/or any travel expenses incurred are the sole responsibility of each individual.

Cancellation Policy

  • By registering for the Show you authorize the National Restaurant Association to charge your credit card account the applicable fees for the registrations processed during this online session. Cancellation of your registration must be done in writing to restaurant@experient-inc.com by April 5. Refunds are only given for cancellations received by April 5, 2019. After April 5th registration is non-refundable.
