Chicago STARS Mixology Competition
A Cocktail Party and Mixology Competition
Jamal Doss of The Aviary won the inaugural Chicago STARS Mixology competition. She advanced to the finals with her What's Sap With That? cocktail featuring Maker's Mark bourbon whiskey, Jägermeister, banana liqueur, crème de cacao, Palo Cortado sheri, maple vinegar, and ancho chile tincture. The drink was garnished with a spray of Vernelli Punch Alla Fiama Fantasia liqueur. For her winning cocktail, Doss created a cocktail with ingredients provide by Chef C.J. Jacobson of Aba, host venue for the competition.
Local Chicago talent competed for the title "Chicago's STARS Mixologist" and a cash prize in a competition emceed by Charles Joly (co-founder, CraftHouse Cocktails) and judged by a panel that includes Agostino Perrone (director of mixology at the Connaught Bar). The first round featured ten of Chicago's top mixologists and took place in a roped off section of the space. The top two then took to the stage to prepare a "Dealer's Choice" for the judges.
The ultimate celebration of Chicago cocktail culture and the Restaurant Show included two hours of open bar and passed hors d'oeuvres, including specialty cocktails mixed by local mixologists highlighting what's next in cocktails.
