QuickTrip and Sheetz - two large convenience store/grocerant operators that serve on our Foodservice@Retail: Grocerants Board of Advisors, and will be speaking at the upcoming Educational Summit at NRA Show in May – were voted once again by their employees onto the Fortune ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ list.

QuikTrip jumped to #68 on the 2017 list, up from #76 in 2016.  Sheetz rose to #87 this year, up from #97 a year ago.  Appearances on the list are a habit for both companies: this is QuikTrip’s 15th year, and it is Sheetz’s third year.

Fortune calls its annual research study with Great Place to Work “the most extensive employee survey in corporate America.”

QuikTrip workers rated the chain “great” on: pride (97%), communication (97%), bosses (96%), rewards (96%), challenges (95%) and atmosphere (95%).   Also, 94% said they have the resources and equipment to do their job, 94% cite special and unique benefits, and 93% said their workplace is “great” overall, according to the survey.

Sheetz invested an extra $15 million last year to raise salaries and is converting more workers to full-time status.  The chain’s workers rated it “great” on: rewards (95%), communication (95%), challenges (94%), atmosphere (94%), pride (4%) and bosses (93%).  Also, 93% “feel good” about the ways Sheetz contributes to the community, and 91% said they have the resources and equipment to do their job.

Traits like these help keep staff turnover low and teams satisfied, so in-store grocerants can be consistent happy, welcoming places for customers to socialize, eat and purchase more.
